TRAFFIC TICKETSWhen you get a traffic ticket, it may seem logical to just pay it and move on. However, when you pay the fine, you are pleading guilty to the charge on the ticket. In many cases, not only will the guilty plea affect your driver's license, it can have severe consequences on your wallet. Your insurance company can and will increase your premiums a minimum of 30% and up to 340% when you plead guilty. It is important to contact an attorney who can advise you of your options and help minimize the impact of your ticket.
You may be told by the officer that you can complete a defensive driving course to keep the matter off your record. However, that is not what actually happens. When you complete the course and pay the court costs, you plead guilty to the crime that you are charged with. The court then enters a Prayer for Judgment Continued (PJC) in your matter. With this type of PJC, the court agrees not to enter a final conviction in your matter so long as no one in your household receives another violation within three years. If any member of your household then receives a moving violation, insurance points can be assessed for both violations. Let us put our experience and expertise to work for you. We will negotiate with the District Attorney's office for a reduction or dismissal of the charge. In turn, the impact on your license and insurance will be minimized, often without the use of a PJC. In some cases it is necessary to use a PJC, but only as a last resort. An experienced attorney will review the facts of your case to determine and fight for the most favorable outcome in your particular case. Regardless, your insurance savings will often more than make up for the fee you pay to an attorney. When you get a ticket for an infraction such as failure to use a safety belt, illegal window tinting, or inspection violation, there will be a fine in addition to court costs. You can often pay this fine without consequence to your insurance, but the fines can really add up. However, when you hire an attorney to handle the matter, your attorney can often work with you and the court to remedy the situation and have the charge completely dismissed. Again, the fee you pay your attorney will often be less than the fee you would pay to the court. |
